Watershed opens Gray’s Bay Dam ahead of spring melt

Although more than one foot of ice remains on Lake Minnetonka, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) opened Gray’s Bay Dam for the season on Thursday, April 19.

According to an MCWD release, the MCWD worked with staff from Tonka Bay Marina to install aerators near the dam gates to break up the ice and allow the dam to begin releasing water from Lake Minnetonka into Minnehaha Creek. City of Minnetonka staff helped break up the final layer of ice, which allowed the dam to begin discharging water.
