Wayzata High physical education teacher receives national award

Wayzata High School teacher Ryan Johnson has been named the 2017 High School Strength and Conditioning Coach by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Winners for the award, which has been given annually since 1991, are determined based on their contributions to the association, their community and the strength and conditioning profession.

Johnson teaches physical education and is the strength and conditioning coordinator for Wayzata Public Schools, a position he began in 2000.

Wayzata athletics have captured 54 team state titles in his tenure and Johnson works directly with the three-time state champion football program as director of operations and player development. Over 50 other high school and small college programs have visited Johnson’s Wayzata Trojan Power program.
