Construction madness in Excelsior

The Excelsior Fire District Chief Scott Gerber reported that a truck, attempting to turn right June 28 onto Water Street, had an incident while traveling through the Second Street construction site in Excelsior.

The truck tipped over after its tires hit a dip in the road on the corner of Water Street and Second Street in front of the entrance to the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce.

This incident caused fuel to leak from the truck. Gerber reported that the spill was contained and no fuel entered Lake Minnetonka. The construction crew filled in the dip in the road to avoid any other incidents.

Because of street and utility project, the road is only open for local businesses. It’s being advised that vehicles who are not traveling to those local businesses should go around the construction site.

The city is extending the water main to connect with the main water lines at the five corners and Water Street.

Crews are also working on water service connections, stormwater sewer improvements and partial sewer improvements. Construction is planned through August.
