Two years ago, the Wayzata Yacht Club celebrated its 50-year anniversary. Then-board member Bert Foster, speaking about the milestone, was quick to point out what the club represented – or rather, what it didn’t represent.
“When you think of the words ‘yacht club,’ you think of two things: One is expensive and number two is snooty. … The Wayzata Yacht Club is the absolute opposite,” Foster said in a 2015 interview with the Sun Sailor. “We are inexpensive and we are not the least bit snooty. We are totally welcoming.”
The approachable and welcoming nature of the club was something Foster cultivated for decades until his death May 22. He was 80 years old.
