The storm that hit the Twin Cities metro area June 11 did a considerable amount of damage at Art on the Lake that was going on that weekend in the Commons Park in Excelsior.
The storm hit during the second day of the 37th annual Excelsior’s Art on the Lake, and over 150 artists, non profit groups, sponsors, and food vendors were set up for the event.
The morning storm brought high winds and hail, which severely damaged artist work, tents and other items.
Luckily, the storm hit before the event opened, so no one was at the park and no injuries occurred.
When the artists and fair participants arrived to the Commons to see what remained, many were devastated to find mangled tents and destroyed artwork.
Almost immediately after the last lightning bolt hit, concerned community members appeared on the scene, gloves in hand and ready to help in any way they could.
