High water levels on Lake Minnetonka

In spite of summer-like weather, the recent heavy rains are still affecting water levels on Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek.

In an effort to lower the lake level, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District discharging water from the Gray’s Bay Dam at a rate of 250 cubic feet per second.

If paddlers are interested in paddling Minnehaha Creek, the district is advising them check the creek’s automatic flow gauge at bit.ly/2rMs28H to get an idea of how fast the water is moving.

Paddling conditions are safest when the creek is flowing between 75 and 150 cubic feet per second.

Paddling is not recommended when the creek is flowing above 150 cubic feet per second.
