Orono alumni returns for year of service

During the 2016-17 school year, the Orono School District hosted an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow, Sarah Adams. Adams is also a 2011 graduate of Orono. As the end of the school year approaches and she concludes her year of service and therefore we are seeking candidates to serve our school district for the 2017-18 school year.

Promise Fellows work directly with youth in grades 6-10 to provide support and guidance to engage them in school and learning, both academically and emotionally. Over the course of their year-long service, Promise Fellows build strong relationships with their selected students, develop and organize projects, and deliver enrichment activities with the goal of academic gains.

Adams has made a positive impact on the Orono students she worked with this year. “It might not be an ‘aha moment’ every day, but the gradual progress throughout the school year has been amazing to see. I’m seeing them grow and flourish,” Adams said.

Promise Fellows also work collaboratively with teachers, counselors and administrators.
