Excelsior residents spoke at the March 20 city council meeting and expressed disapproval of moving two parking meters onto First Street.

City staff members advised the council to move two parking meters, currently at Linwood Road and West Lake Street and Water Street and West Lake Street, to the northerly side of First Street from Center Street to the cul-de-sac.

After the discussion, the council voted in favor of making First Street permit parking only.

The residents were notified of the parking meter relocation earlier this month. The notification also informed the residents that they would have to pay for parking at the meters.

Excelsior City Manager Kristi Luger said both meters were generating very little revenue in their location and First Street would be an optimal place to move the meters.

Several First Street residents spoke against moving the parking meters.
