Excelsior considers implementing sales tax

A set of bills were introduced March 13 in the Minnesota Legislature that would increase Excelsior’s sales tax.

The Senate bill is authored by District 33 Sen. David Osmek, R-Mound and the House’s companion bill is authored by District 58B Rep. Pat Garofalo, R-Farmington. The bills propose raising Excelsior’s sales tax by a half-cent to 7.775 cents per dollar of taxable sales within the city.

The increase is proposed to help fund $7 million in renovation costs for The Commons Park in Excelsior.
